Tomorrow with karpov

Post by fern »

Karpov is in Chile, my country. He came invited by a millionaire here that loves chess and finance lot of things, in fact, he has financed three previous visits of this GM. He will install a chess school and do other things. Tomorrow I will meet him, perhaps play a simul with some other guys and then have a lunch with him.
If any of you have something of interest in his mind you would love to ask to him, let me know.

Ask him if he thought Edmar Mednis did him justice in his book about him. I thought the book was excellent but maybe he did not.

Be interesting to know his favorite chess program and which he prefers to practice with.

Best,

Hi Fernando, I'd appreciate it if you could ask Karpov if, during his
active chess playing days, he found it beneficial to take breaks away
from chess, and if so, how long should those breaks be? For example,
should you have several months of nothing whatever to do with chess?
all the best,
Larry

During the 1990 World Championship match Vs Kasparov Karpov was given a Fidelity Elite Avant Guarde Version 10 as a gift by Fidelity to be used as a training partner
a very rare and expensive dedicated chess computer
at that time the cost was about $10,000

According to critics the brilliant GM Efim Geller, who is the coach of Boris
Spassky, transferred to Anatoli Karpov, the reason why Karpov has a higher
win ratio against Spassky than the win ratio of Fischer
against Spassky. This analysis of the media could've made Fischer avoid the
world championship match against Karpov.

Questions:
-During those days, do Karpov honestly feel he can win against Fischer,
when both of them are at their peak?

-Why did GM Efim Geller transferred to GM Karpov? Is it due to higher pay from Karpov, or politics or pressure from the Russian governement?

P.S. Please remind him many club players, including me, loved his Chessmaster5000 analysis on his games with audio commentary released around 1996.

last, if you still have time with karpov. : )

In case Spassky was still worldchampion and was not dethroned by Fischer,
will Efim Geller still transfer to Karpov team before the Karpov-Spassky Candidates Finals?

Ask him if he thought he could have beat Fischer back in 1972.
Have fun Fern, you lucky bugger!
