Grandmaster Maurice Ashley and Grandmaster Gata Kamsky are the two newest inductees to the U.S. World Chess Hall of Fame.

As the first African-American GM, and the first ever Black Grandmaster in the world, that alone should be enough to qualify Maurice Ashley, however, Ashley has done quite a bit for the game in the United States especially in the NYC area, he has also been a commentator on several high profile events, including several man vs machine events. I wholeheartedly agree with his induction into the World Chess Hall of Fame.

Although I'm sure someone as sharp as you already has looked him up, see more about his many achievements here:

You feel someone should be inducted into the US Chess Hall of Fame because of the colour of their skin?! I thought the USA would have grown out of that phase of humanity?! It should be the merit principle! Ashley's contribution to chess is small compared to say Bruce Pandolfini and others.

Who says that Bruce Pandolfini won't eventually be inducted into the Hall of Fame? I agree with him being inducted also. As for Ashley, if you don't feel he should be inducted, then why don't you protest somewhere where you think it'll have an impact rather than here.

Hello Andrew, this is a discussion forum and Ted made a post to inform and allow us to discuss, so we discuss. On a side note I like and agree with your avatar 8-)

Cordially,
