He also promised a IOS version but it also never materialised.
Facebook quote from 18th December 2012 whilst talking about the Android version.
Houdini will come with its own GUI, this is the most convenient solution for the vast majority of the users.
- An iPad/iPhone version will be created later - we're working step by step

Almost all the powerful engines have a port on the android, except for Houdini. I just recently ported Andscacs-0.921. But I think Houdini we will not see. R.H. promised and did not unfortunately.

Only Robert can answer this question but he has avoided giving any response. A simple reply like yes it is still planned or no I don't ever want to make the port will at least give some assurance to us.

They wrote to him (my friends from one chess forum), but he answered very evasively. According to the idea of porting to android is not a problem, the source code for Linux is easily compiled for android and nothing needs to be altered. For example, the stockfish compilation takes just a few minutes. that the difficulties are related to the graphical interface under Houdini. But there is an excellent open source interface (Droidfish). After a little refinement, it will work fine.

One Android App that I have only found recently which I enjoy playing against is Metal Chess that contains the Greko 12.9 engine.

Hi Vladimir
Not very nice that the author of the app didn't bother to contact you. I emailed him a question about the app and never received an answer.
To be perfectly honest, I didn't know GreKo is based on the Kaissa program that's won the 1974 Computer Chess World Champion.
Regards from England

Re: Whatever happened to Houdini for Android?
The only influence of Kaissa to GreKo is via the book published in USSR in 1984, which I borrowed some ideas from. Also, IM Alexander Bitman, one of Kaissa's authors, helped a bit in testing GreKo on early stages of development. No direct influence of source code.
In my to-do list there is a plan to port 1992's Kaissa into UCI engine... Of course, it will be named Kaissa UCI, not GreKo. Maybe I'll start this work sooner or later.
I have succesfully contacted with MetalChess authors, everything is OK now.
