Houdini 2.0c x64 vs Rainbow Limited- beta 2
This update is only the beginning, and I don't know if it could get much better. So far it is even better than advertised. If forced to bet on the outcome- I just don't know if I could take Houdini or not. I have never seen anything quite like this:
Intel i5 w/4TCs
Fritz 13 gui
1CPU/64bit
128MB hash
Bases=NONE
Ponder_Learning=OFF
Perfect 12.32 book w/12-move limit
5'+5"
Match=500 games
| Code: |
Houdini 2.0c x64 +9 +10/-9/=21 51.25% 20.5/40
Rainbow Limited- beta 2 -9 +9/-10/=21 48.75% 19.5/40

Since I got this update, I had to get the update for the other match ready also. Then do some figuring as well as checking pgns from the other match for any potential errors. Along with a couple other things- it was a bit between getting the info and posting it. And since both matches are running in 2 different user-names, I can't just "click" and see either.
I wanted to check something before I posted this, and w/o looking at draws, I saw that since this update- Rainbow Limited had run off 5 wins and taken a 14 -12 lead. I saw the game being played had Houdini showing a score of +3.75, in what looked like a complicated position. So I mentally figured the score as 14 -13, right? Anyone would. But when I checked back Limited had found a way to slip out of trouble and draw the game!
Short of something completely unexpected- this could be the best head-up match between 2 chess engines that has ever been played. I'm trying now to figure out how I can stay up w/o sleep.
I keep all records- and I did not realize until I checked that in all 32-bit and 64-bit matches I have run- Houdini has never had his name under another engine's name in a final crosstable. But again- there is no way he has ever had to fight for his life like this either. And to think- over 400 more to go!
We shall return-

Gab, I swear I wish you could be watching this match with me. I guess there are times when some chess might be described as "boring" (ie GMs drawing games over and over)- but nothing like that here. How do they find these moves?!

Hey Gab, when they reach a certain point in strength- they are so far over my head they lose me anyway. Sort of like asking me if I had rather play Critter or Houdini. Does it matter?
At any rate, be watching because sometime in the next couple hours I will have updates from both 500-game matches.

A Houdini clone playing Houdini?
Or is this an original engine?
(unlikely, but HOPEFUL)
Can you tell us more, or can we see the games? |
