Let me say first that Marco Costalba is one of the nicest and most helpful guys I have run across in all my years of dealing with this stuff. I want to be very clear about that.
Now, on to the problem. I have run 2 versions by Jean Paul. One is 300413, and is without doubt the strongest Stockfish version I have seen so far. Right now, there seems to be no close second. Another by Jean Paul is 190413, and I would imagine it is probably 25 or more elo behind 300413.
So last night Uri tells me I am wrong- there is another Stockfish version at least as strong as 300413. But when pressed, he is gone. I am helped by a few others, but they like me have no idea what Uri was actually talking about.
I go to the Stockfish development site, and I see 13051616, which was the latest executable as of May 16. But on May 19 (today) I see the latest is 13051922. I have no idea still what Uri referred to (and actually doubt he does either) but I am game to try any version against the same Strelka 5.6 that scraped by 300413, 22-21.
If anyone, anywhere- thinks there is a version as strong as JPs 300413, I am game. Point me to it. Just give me the version number and exactly where to find it. I am not going to dig thru pages of versions looking for the Holy Grail- much less a chess engine version.
It is my contention no Stockfish version can even come close to 300413. Please, someone prove me wrong! Where is the version!

The version numbers simply denote what date/time that SF was compiled on. For example, 13051616, means compiled on 2013, May (05) 16th, at 16:00.geots wrote:If anyone, anywhere- thinks there is a version as strong as JPs 300413, I am game. Point me to it. Later development versions of SF are generally stronger. The development build site is run automatically by a volunteer, so it doesn't list the strongest version that has been tested to date. A simple rule is just download the newest one
Also, not to say anything bad about the JP versions (quite possible they are great!), but 100 game matches are not proving which version is stronger.

Just stick with the latest official version, otherwise you'll get a new developmental version every other day.

Thank you for taking the time to answer me. Only 2 things: I agree with you about 100 games, but it has done it 5 times in 100game matches. Plus I did not say that it can always stay with Strelka 5.6,but at least it is capable of doing it- which is unlike any Stockfish I have seen to date. Remember now I am talking Strelka 5.6, basically a beta version that only me and a couple other people have access to.
And thanks again for taking the time to answer.

I have no problem with a new developemental version every other day when there is a functional change(practically no functional change is for part of the developement version).Graham Banks wrote:Just stick with the latest official version, otherwise you'll get a new developmental version every other day.
My best guess is that the latest developement version is the strongest.
It may be something like
the following when 3000 is the rating of stockfish3 as starting point:
30.4 Stockfish3 3000
3.5 Merge mobility area tweak 3001
5.5 Fix trapped rook condition 3002
5.5 Merge increased 'movecount' pruning 3003
8.5 Merge 'passed_pawns' tweaks 3004
13.5 Enable refuation table 3007
14.5 Minor bugfixes to refutation table 3008
15.5 Revert trapped rook bug fix 3009
15.5 Increased mobility array 3010
16.5 use 2 counter moves instead of one 3012
19.5 Reduce countermoves less in LMR 3013
19.5 delay killer initialization 3013
19.5 Microptimize MoveList loop 3014

"My best guess" and "it may be something like......." convince me that when it comes to Stockfish- you really are not sure of much of anything.

I just sent you my engine folder and it is ready to install once you extract. The only exe is one that runs SSE42- so I hope your machine runs it. About these versions: a couple days ago it was comfortably the strongest- but as fast as they are coming out now- who knows. All I know for sure is that it seems to be stronger than the last official Stockfish 3 release. Enjoy.
