to speed up the mouse ...

Post by MikeB »

for playing chess programs in DOS under Virtual PC 2007...

download a mouse driver that supports mouse acceleration...

http://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/mouse704.zip

then download mousectl.com

from the webpage:

"
REM Make the mouse up to 1.5x more sensitive; 8 values
REM apparently provide acceleration as the mouse moves.
loadhigh c:\local\dos\mousectl 5,6,10,15,15,15,15,15 "

one error noted above - it accepts values up to 32767 - but using values that high will most likely render your mouse useless as it will be too sensitive . I found 8,12,16,20,20,20,20,20 to my liking -- ( my normal preference is for a very sensitive mouse) , if the settings above are too sensitve, just lower the numbers a tad. The suggested setting of 5,6,10,15,15,15,15,15,15 probably works for most people.

Also it does not have to be loaded high.

In any event, definiltly more responsive than the standard DOS mouse running under Virtual PPC 2007, thus making OLD chess programs under VPC 2007 more enjoyable.
