New WinBoard beta

I have uploaded a new WB version to http://hgm.nubati.net/WinBoard-4.6beta.zip . In this version I changed the comboboxes for specifying an engine in the Load Engine and Tournament Options dialogs by listboxes. This seemed to work more naturally to me, especially in combination with the grouping of engines. With comboboxes you had to re-open the combobox all the time; after selecting a group, it would close, and you would have to re-open it before you could see the contents of the group. Also when selecting a number of engines for a tourney, it was annoying that you would have to re-open the combobox, and move to the area where you was selecting engines after every engine.

With listboxes, the engines stay in view always (and opening a group immediately shows you its contents), and you only have to double-click them. It also makes it more natural to respect grouping when installing new engines: a new engine will now always be added at the bottom of the list that you see. (i.e. if you are within a group, it will be installed in that group.)

The listboxes could also have some disadvantages, though (like making it less easy to select a name by partially typing it). So I would like to know what people think of this change.

This version also supports the exclude-moves feature, as described in http://hgm.nubati.net/news.html . (For this reason it is bundled with a Polyglot that supports it too.)

I use Winboard 4.6.beta. 120407. There seems to be a problem in engine settings, options are not shown or not completely shown.
Check, Engine->Engine #1 Settings...

There is no problem with Winboard 4.6. 120402 and the released 4.6.

Yes, you are right. I had broken something in the multi-column formatting of the dialog. So only engines that had more than 25 options (for which 2 columns are used) did display correctly. Unfotunately I had tested on Glaurung...

Winboard 4.6.beta. 120408 will crash when double-clicking the empty part of
the Load first engine dialogue box, under select engine from list.

Engine->Load First Engine...
Double-click the space under the # CHESS engine list header for example.

Ah, thanks. To keep things simple I reserved a fixed number of characters for the header line, (initially all spaces), and then add moves as long as there is space. But apparently I miscalculate the available amount of space by 1 character, because the header must end in linefeed,and I somehow overwrite the linefeed. (Could be a CR+LF problem as well.)

Regarding option for winboard, I have a combo for Strength option with following strings,
Max, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, MyLevel, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, Min.
By selecting Engines->engine settings then select 9 from the combo box, then press OK. Come back and check the combo box, then you can see 9.
However selecting 1 from the combo box, press ok and then open again to see what is in the combo box, now what you see is 10 instead of 1.
