2chess is a nice chess program that is written entirely in the Java programming language and consequently runs on any platform where a suitable Java Runtime Environment is available (version 1.5 or more required).

j2chess is a pure hobby project and it's true to say its development progress is fairly slow... But who really minds?
By making j2chess public, I hope I'll give you the opportunity to have a good time playing chess and also you'll help me to improve it by sending me your feedback via email. That's it really!

The latest available version is j2chess r3.2, released in December 2010, and last but not least, j2chess is available as a free download.

The built-in performance test gave 3400000 nps using 8 threads on my 2009 Mac Pro.

Not at all ! After my tournament will be finished all Python chess applications will be here. Some are only engines , some are GUI + engine. Much stronger than Shatranj 1.17 of Mr.Sam Tannous.

I don't speak here about existing chess engines transcripted in Python like GarboChess or OliThink.You can find these transcriptions here:

.......but about original chess enginers ! For example here is one of my contribution to ComputerChess Wiki : rubychess 0.6a - a chess engine programmed in Ruby and transcripted in Python also :

1.-download the archive from here:

2.- hoping you have Python 2.xx or 3.xx installed on your PC ,
unzip the above archive;

3.-start the application from:

board.py

You have 14 personalities and a decent chess. But the true Python surprises are in my bunker !
