Where are "Thinking Lines" in Fritz 13?

Post by geots »

The stronger engines like Critter, Houdini, Stockfish, Komodo etc.- if you run 2 of them against each other in a match in Fritz 11 you will see each with 4 or 5 full and long thinking lines. But in Fritz 13, none of them show but 1 line. I even tried it with Fritz 13 and same thing. Is there a way I can make them show more lines like in Fritz 11 gui?

Thanks,

george

How long did you watch your Fritz 13 engine games? Whatever your setting is, if the PM changes there MUST come another line. So I guess you have seen, incidentially, positions where the PM didn't change throuout the engine calculation process. This may happen for a couple of moves but sooner or later, a calcullation process will switch from one move to another.

Switching off "Scroll new moves only" in the right-click menu of the engine window will give you more lines, whenever the PV changes. But I consider that useless... Btw., by default this option IS off anyway. So either you had switched it on yourself, or something is broken.

Basically, Fritz 13 is not much different to earlier Fritzes, with the exception that the menues are displayed as so called "ribbons" (which I dislike a lot) In case of doubt, just do what you did in older Fritzes, and it should work like before. I am not aware of substantial differences, with the only exception of the new Let's Check feature.

If you right-click in the thinking lines area a window pops up where you may choose scroll thinking lines. Maybe that is what you want.

I wasn't just "not-responding" to you. I just got back online after creating the post you replied to. I will check that feature. Thanks, Gabor. You are a good friend.

I started an engine-engine match in Fritz 13. Each one only using 1 thinking line. I right-clicked in the "thinking area" as Gabor said, and hit scroll. When i did , they both started showing 5 or 6 thinking lines as they should. My question to either of you- do I have to do this each time, or can I change a setting so it will work like this from now on.
