Deep Rybka 4.1 SSE42 x64 vs Komodo64 SSE Version 4

Intel i5 w/4TCs
Fritz 11 gui
1CPU/64bit

128MB hash
Bases=NONE
Ponder_Learning=OFF
Perfect 12.32 book w/12-move limit
40/3 Repeating
Match=50 games

Code: Select all

1   Deep Rybka 4.1 SSE42 x64   +56    +18/-10/=22   58.00%   29.0/50
2   Komodo64 SSE Version 4     -56    +10/-18/=22   42.00%   21.0/50

I watched over half of this match. Rybka made it look too easy.

This goes to show that it's not such an automatic thing, that 2-3 years puts Rybka 4.1 far down in the charts. And it shows that Houdini is indeed a very worthy program and programmer.
Why do i say this?
I mean to say that human chess was already almost eclipsed in most ways, by Rybka 4.1, and much more, by recent Houdini developement, and that this is a lasting value, and not something which we should take for granted that it should keep going up and up and up, just because we have a human tendency to scoff at what what was achieved 3 years ago.

Indeed, hugely important things were much better 1000 years ago than today also!

(I've seen people waiting in a quewe which i knew was not moving forward at all, but people at the back thought it was moving, because it ought to be moving, and someone kept pushing forward every momment or two, thus eventually crushing all the people together, when it was still exactly the same amount of people as it was 30 minutes earlier, but all bunched together. That's amusing but sick, but i was in that quewe and i realized that was happening, though i didn't scream about it).

Nice synopsis. And thanks for checking out my match. What I still keep going back to in my mind is I don't believe, unless it would be Houdini, that we are likely to see again a 2.5 year old version still in the Top 5 or so against new and fresh versions. I am not going to get back in this Rybka fight with anyone, but it is certainly a testament to Vas' incredible abilities.

Best,

gts
