Fight for Place 1, SF 20Aug15 vs. Komodo 9.2 vs. 42 oppo.

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

I started a new "Fight for Place 1"!
Stockfish 20Aug2015 BMI2 x64 vs. Komodo 9.2 x64

Will be sync. for the future. Means both engines will allways have the same opponents in my Rating list. Same I do for the latest versions I am testing.

For live tables I set Komodo and SF to 3.175 Elo.

If you like to follow:

Stockfish 20Aug2015 BMI2 x64:
http://www.amateurschach.de/ftptrigger/ ... 2-x64.html

Komodo 9.2 x64:
http://www.amateurschach.de/ftptrigger/ ... 2-x64.html

At first:
Thanks to the Komodo team!
I am using a free version of Komodo 9.2 x64.

At second:
Both test-runs will be run to the same time and each test run on 7 cores vs. 42 opponents. 2050 games.

Around 210 games per day for the two test-runs = 10 days undo the final results.

I changed a bit in Stockfish configuration.
Same contemp 15 as in Komodo 9.2 x64 standard setting for SF.

My Webpages are not upto date. I will working on it in the next hours and today in the evening on it.

Best
Frank

Please have partience ...
The two Live links will be working in around 30 minutes

Re: Note ...

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Important for understanding my test system!?

In the two test-runs K9.2 vs. Sf will be play 50 games. In this case 100 games between the two strongest engines in the World. I must do that or the test-runs are not sync.

Now the two test-runs are still running!

My problem is that my webpages are not up to date. To many private work at the moment. But I will try it that my site will be uptodate very soon.

Re: First impressions ...

Hi there,

Komodo 9.2:
Contemp works perfectly and move average isn't high.
After the first 170 games ...
Move average = 82 only !! (sensational in comparing to 9.0). Means Komodo find faster the way to win the games vs. weaker opponents.

Short draw games: 2 (after 27 vs. SF and after 48).

Never I believed that with higher contemp the move average go down. It must be other reasons and I am searching a bit. In late middlgame Komodo is extremly strong, much stronger as version 9.0. Often a wonder what Komodo find here for nice combinations in the games. I have a lot of fun with Komodo 9.2 ... very very nice update !!!

I am sure that Version 9.2 is clearly improved with the conditions I am using.

Comment: Perfectly update and it seems that Komodo is the new number 1 in my rating list.

Stockfish:
I set to contemp = 15 and it works.
4 games draw up to move number 50 (at the moment 164 games played). I have 5 very fast won games in the database. After all what I can see it seems that SF is in the beginning more aggressive as the latest Version I am testing and more aggressive as Komodo.

Move average at the moment = 87 moves.

The different to Komodo:
The late middlegame ... here it seems that Komodo have a clear advantage after the first games I saw. In endgames Komodo have a small advantage in comparing to SF.

At the moment I can say ...
Clearly more fun in looking Komodo games and clearly more fun in looking Stockfish games (Contemp helps here a bit).

Unclear the strength in Elo after 160 - 170 games only. But it seems that Komodo 9.2 is clearly improved compare to Komodo 9. SF is unclear after the first results (comparing to the 4 months older version I am testing before).

Re: After 20% = SF - 12.2Elo, K9.2 + 4.1Elo and stats!

Hi there,

that's what I mean ...
Made no sense to test Komodo and Stockfish to often with my test-system vs. many opponents (not many strong opponents for SF / Komodo). But I am sure for both engine Elo will go up during the "Fight for place 1"

But sure is ...
I am very happy with both versions. My feeling is that both engines play more nice chess as the preview versions. And ... I must not looking in all the fast draw games by Stockfish without Contemp. The World in testing engines are fully OK.

But opinion can be changes tomorrow after sleeping ...

:-)

SF move average = 87 (April Version = 81 without contemp)
K9.2 move average = 83 (K9 = 85)

SF short draw games undo move 50 = 16
K9.2 short draw games undo move 50 = 13
(both engines contemp = 15)

SF short won games undo move 50 = 10, lost 0
K9.2 short won games undo move 50 = 10, lost 0

Remember:
Hakkapeliitta short won games undo move 50 = 39 (after 2050 games)

that's what I mean ...

I hope you will test Stockfish with standard contempt setting
Because it would most probably top your list
Since 26 april Stockfish has improved with at least 10 ELO
