Collector's corner: Saitek Renaissance board version?

Post by Dr. Axel Schumacher »

Hey friends,

I wonder if one (or both) of my Renaissance boards can use a SPARC module. However, as far as I know, there are older models that have to be modified to play with the SPARC. Right? How do I find out without the module? And how has it to be modified in case it is necessary?
(I have an Analyst D++ module that runs fine).

Renaissance regards,
Axel

P.S. Yes, I would sell one of my boards ;-)

hi Alex
yes the board had to be modified to take the Sparc module
as far as i know Saitek no longer will perform the modification

i dont know exactly what was changed but i think it had something to do with the voltage regulator or something similar

i do know that if you use a Sparc module in a board that is not modified it will not harm the board or the module but of course it will not work

Best i can do
Steve
PS..i saw that auction of the Sparc module also
:)

hi Alain
do you mean for this particular auction or in general?

if in general..

all three Saitek boards could be modified to take the Sparc
so the Leo,Galileo or Ren ..all can take the Sparc...IF modified

Hoping i answered your question regards
Steve

yes, you answered perfectly my question as usual :)

It was a general question because I had always heard of the Sparc module associated with the Renaissance (Of course, as the Sparc Module does not have a display, the Renaissance is almost required).

Waiting for Paris 2008 regards,

well, if it arrives in the end, then waiting for a few weeks is ok, at least for this computer...

I have other computers to play with regards

i guess the sparc would even run in the leonardo if you would change the board for the power-supply within the wooden boards.

you don't need a display IMO because the leonardo boards can show all informations with the LEDs on board. also you can connect the board with the PC and you get the sendinfos.
the sparc is a nice machine, only that it sometimes has strange main lines where the queen is en prise.

Thanks for your input.
I guess I will not bid on it, too risky; although I really like to play with the Renaissance board. It's second in my favorite list of beautiful boards. I only like the Fidelity AvantGarde and Elite A/S boards more (they have a nicer color). I don't know why, but the Renaissance board reminds me always of Norwegian wood architecture. :o
