In fact despite showing up as 7_1 engine, it appears to be exactly the same as the earlier Genius 6.5 and position analysis timing seems to confirm that. I can't measure any difference to get to a certain position compared to 6.5 and hash still seems limited to 64 Mb irrespective of pool memory size.

So maybe best not to expect more than GUI compatible with Vista and old 1999 6.5 engine. Never mind! :(

Hallo Daniel,
hast du da was in den falschen Hals bekommen :D  :) ?

Re: NEW - Chess Genius 7.200B is released

Isaksen wrote::D Hi all

Looks like Richard Lang finally decided to work more on his desktop version. I have been waiting like that for ever, ever since I first bought his program.
You can find the program here: http://chessgenius.com/pc/beta.htm
It is a free update to all registered users of Chess Genius 7.0 ,7.1.
It is only a beta version of 7.2 until the real 7.2 version comes out, which will be soon.
If I remmber it correctly Chess Genius was one of the first programs who defeated World Champion Gary Kasparov, long before Deep Blue did.
Lets just hope that Mr Lang continues to work on his program, it would be a shame if he stopped now, after this version.
Am definetely looking forward to future versions of Chess Genius after this release. All this waiting finally paid off, hope it did for You as well.

MY understanding of human nature (if anything like my own) might suggest that Mr.Lang was meaning to to this for his customers many years ago, and only now managed to get around to it!

Well, 7.2 from what I understand, might not be any particular improvement over Genius 3. BUT, Genius 8 just MIGHT be. So let's hope for that!

However, it might be interesting if someone could make a test with 7.2 vs the latest Rybka on same hardware, or even a bit slower for Rybka, and/or vs the top 5-8 engines.
I would think that it might lose every game, but it would be interesting to see HOW it does, and if it manages to cause some trouble, and how much.

Wouldnt it be better to match it against something + or - 200 points around its own strength rather than a match with top 8?

Depends what you want to see.
I am interested (also) in seeing the difference between then (when Genius 3 was beating all....hands down) and now, so we can appreciate how good things are now.

I am also interested to see if (and I think that many people do not share my taste in this), the weakest points of todays tops, can easily overpower the strongest points of then, e.g. if there is a position which no other machine could beat genius3 in at the time, and that same position is considered as being a weak point for Rybka... If Rybka would nevertheless beat Genius 3, in an instructive way, by outplaying it at that point of the game. in other words, it would bweat genius on its own (geniuses) turf.
