Hi Tony,

Do you happen to have following engines:

-- Bace 0.46 DC
-- EGM 0.1 or 0.2
-- Erendal 1.3

Best,
I have the first one on the list...EGM is not available as far as I know. Erendal is still private. Wchess was a commercial engine and at the time I only knew how to use winboard, I believe it was packaged with the millenium chess system. So if you can find a link to buy it, then we can split the money.. I dont have your email address, so if you want Bace, I can send it to you.

Thanks, Tony.

Bace 0.46 DC works ok.

You may add your list:

Cassandra 0.24 (time losses)

Best,
Cassandre was one of those borderline engines that was able to win games, so I didnt add it to the list. I am only adding engines that you should avoid completely.

Gringo is removed as it isnt a serious violator.. New to the list are Lamosca 0.1 and Simontacchi 1.8 decepticon, both loses on time quite often.

Update 20, Tony's no play list

AKIBA 0.0 (version number not known) (moves too slow and loses on time)
Alice 0.35?? (frequent time losses, could be a cygwin problem)
Animats Chess 1.1.1.1 (not suitable for tournaments)
Apilchess 1.05 rev.1b (eternal pondering)
Arics 0.95 (does not move)
Bachess 1.3 (always runs out of time)
Babychess 11.1 (frequent crashes, illegal moves etc) Later versions not available..
Blitzer 2.0 (unexplainable time losses)
Brama 051204 (time losses)
Crux 5.0m (crashes about 10% of the time, decently strong engine)
Dendron 0.42 (frequent illegal moves)
El-Turco 0.93 (crashes)
Fianchetto (doesnt move in some games)
iChess(I just cant get it to work)
Jaksah 1.01 (time losses)
Joanna 2002 1.0
Joana DC by Juan Pablo Menoza (crashes, and subsequent time losses)
Kace 0.8.1 (time losses)
Knightmare BP (does not follow 3/0 or 1/1 time controls)
Lamosca 0.10 (time losses)
MFchess 1.1 (time losses)
Muriel aka KDL chess 0.71 (time losses, could be hardware specific as others arent having problems)
NSVchess 0.14 (illegal move during compatibility test)
Simontacchi 1.8 decepticon (time losses)
Talvemanni 0.0.1 (does not follow any of the time controls xm+1sec, game in x or 40 moves in Xminutes)
Trynyty 1.0 (bugs that I am scared to explain)
Youk 1.05 (during compatibility test it resigned against me in a fairly equal position)
Zchess 2 from Eamonn Ramsay (loses on time, 100% of the time)
Zephyr 0.61 (time losses)

In one of my tournaments for testing Bace,
Cassandre lost her all six games with time.
Won just one game because of illegal move.

Well, I removed her to my no play list.

My suggestions continue with 2 engines from Italy:

-- PulChess 02i

and

-- RattatteChess 066666

You should add them to your list.

Best,

Please note: Rattatte Bologna version, ie 1.0, should you have tested.

I am not down to P yet, thanks for the info about pulchess but Rattatechess Bologna works, so it wont be added to the list. Note that we all have system specific issues. I have problem with a lot of engines that uses cygwin1.dll. I checked the games of Cassandre once again, no time losses out of 21 games, it just managed to only win 1.

Yep. I meant that you should include Rattatte Bologna
version, ie 1.0, in your tournaments.

But not 06666 version. Because of frequent time losses,
this one is in my no play list.

Best,

Harun, I always test the latest version of the engine, I simply dont have the computer time to test old versions. A no play list would be pointless if you add old versions to the list as well. You can find at least one version of most engines that violates some rules of compatibility due to compiler errors, time management errors etc..I only have about 16 games with Rattatechess, hence the reason it doesnt appear on my rating list, it was calculated with the command 'ratings 20'. I will keep a close eye on pulchess though, I am not even sure if I have it on my disk.

Special note, longest game with Cassandre was only 53 moves..Do you play with increments as well?? Did it lose on time way before 50 moves?
