i just received the Excalibur Alexandra which as you know has the same program as the DTTC
However it seems to be running about 10% slower then the Robots and the DTTC
after 1.a4 she reaches 6 ply in 52 seconds(as opposed to 47) and after 1.h4 she hits 6 ply after 51 seconds (as opposed to 46)
about a 10% slowdown
i have the New York Times version of the DTTC (you know, its with backlight) and it is about 5% slower than my DTTC.

Maybe Excalibur did not use a crystal but a capacitor like in the Fidelity Designer 2000; they are not working as exact like a crystal.

Robert
your probably right
i tried h4 and let all three computers ponder to 7 ply and i got 3'29" for the Force and DTTC and Alexandra took 3"56"
so it seems around 10% slower
no surprise really as Women are always a bit slower at making a final decision
:o
Ok ..no more Sexist remarks regards

well how could it be different??
after all of these years ...the Elders have finally ordered me to try at least one computer you own

i am still waiting for the 2Robot
no one seems to actually have it for sale yet
the one thing i dont like is the cylinder is uses to suck up the pieces
a Robot with an arm should have a grasping hand sort of mechanism
even the old the Novag Adversary robot had a claw

i think we need to add some thing to the cylinder to grasp the pieces and not suck them up :

something like this...

BTW, have you had news from Nelson, lately?
Is he working on something else OR he retired for good?
At the very least he should improve Alexandra program and make it think all the time.
It is not a bad program at all.
Mmmmm...perhaps I will pit it agans Champion.

Breaking news soon regards

i sent Nelson an email asking him some questions about Alexandra..
i notice the clock speed is slower then DTTC and also about the Language options(box and manual do not mention Russian language so i wanted to find out if different versions of Alexandra exist)
sadly i have received no reply
this was 2 days ago
usually (but not always) i receive some reply even if only a terse ..thinly worded one
i am worried
we are putting together a search party now

steve you should tell him that we are very much looking for a version
of his program in a computer that shows information DURING the
search process and not only AFTER the move has come.
Also looking for these informations (Move, evaluation, search depth)
interrupts the permanent brain of the machine.

so 2 points:

1.information during search process
2.no interruption of search process when information is looked up

tell him we like the strength of Grandmaster/Igor and would like the same program in other machines too (maybe with better hardware).
Its sad that we can only get his best program in the Grandmaster/Igor.
I would like to buy it in new machines too.

here how the igor with 24mhz plays in my dedicated chess tournament so far (40/120 time control):

Thor
Deluxe Talking Chess,Phantom Force and Alexandra ALL show information DURING search
Position Eval..Depth Reached and Intended move
Same also for LCD Chess,LCD Talking chess..etc.etc.
the problem of course is that these programs are all much weaker then GM

you say it. if Excalibur would put the best software into these machines,
i would buy those machines.

but with a weaker version than Igor/GM, i will NOT buy it.

well here is a two game match with the Sharper Image Phantom Chess! Robot eating the Saitek Team Mate Advanced Trainers Lunch
both games were 30 seconds avg per move
the first game is a wild swashbuckling slug fest with the PC! announcing a mate in 5
