Well it seems the Novag 2Robot is finally shipping
i am supposedly due to receive mine next week
it seems the program in the Robot is the same as the also newly released Star Aquamarine..both have the same exact specs and both are rated by Novag at 1850 USCF
Initially the Robot was supposed to have been equipped with the Star Beryl Program ..the SBeryl has the same specs as the Robot but the Novag rating guesstimate for the SBeryl is 1800 ..so we definitely have something new under the sun here in terms of the chess program
when i receive it i shall be putting the Robot through its paces so i will try to sort this out for our members that are interested

the 2Robot is only the 13th chess playing Robot to ever be released for sale and only the second with an Arm for piece movement
the last Armed Robot was released in 1982 over 26 years ago

Armed And Extremely Dangerous Regards

At least one 2Robot advertisement says "4K program". Has there ever been a 1800 elo 4K ROM program? Is the ad wrong?

I'd say that most, if not all, of the under the board auto-mover robots are really the same model but with slightly different packaging.

It might be better to wait for a 3Robot with a serial link.

nope not wrong
4k it is
Kittinger is a genius in getting a decent program out of only 4K Rom
there are several Novag Computers with Kittinger's programs at 4K including the Star Beryl all rated around 1800
but you should remember..we are talking USCF ratings here..NOT ELO
so subtract 125-150 right from the start

If the opening book storage has to come out of that 4 KB ROM, then that's a small book if much ROM is left to the program.

I'd say that an 8 KB book is a minimum for a casual player. Much less than that means that the human resorts to manually entering opening sequences.

Another consideration is that the machine is reported to have only 768 bytes RAM. This limits depth to maybe around 12 ply and that's a problem when variable depth searches often hit 30 ply or more in the middlegame.

you got that exactly right
12 ply is the maximum search dept
maximum mate is 6
it runs at 8 Mhz
no info on opening book size yet

Nailed It Regards

a Robot with an arm should have a grasping hand sort of mechanism
even the old the Novag Adversary robot had a claw
and so has the 2Robot!

Niggemann now has it listed on their website:
https://www.schachversand.de/startneu2.htm

there is a video, where you can clearly see the claw!

and on youtube is another video; there you can see it too (not so clearly, but visible!)

thanks Robert
well i meant more of a human like Claw
i like my hand attachment better:

i even offered this idea to Novag but some low level employee wrote me back and told me to
"Speak to the Hand"
sheesh..what do they know anyway?

Simple yet Elegant Regards
Steve
PS..odd there is no dust cover being offered as an optional item
the first Armed Robot sold with a dust cover
i guess they think we all live in a dust free environment

Photos of the 2Robot box are now being eagerly shared by Collectors Worldwide
(photos and videos of the computer itself are more common on the net then those of Paris Hilton)
i have two such photos
seems the box is indicating an Estimated(read Guesstimated) USCF Rating of 1800
This is totally inconsistent with Novag's OWN advertising blurbs which indicate a rating of 1850
This indicates that the Robot might indeed be shipping with the Star Beryl program as originally intended
the 1850 would have meant it was shipping with a basically new program

Slightly Ticked Regards
Steve
