Excalibur keychain chess?

Post by kaissa »

Hello to all,

I found this by accident at ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/EXCALIBUR-410K-KEYC ... .m20.l1116

There is nothing about this on the Excalibur site. Does anybody know anything about this? A friend of mine will like this a lot, but it probably is very weak.

Yes

i made a post about this computer on the Hiarcs Forum a little over a year ago when it was first released for sale

http://hiarcs.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=4445#4445

i looked up some of the features for you in the manual
it has a small opening book(about 4-5 moves deep in about 10 different main lines)
8 levels of play ...ranging from 1 second per move to a maximum of 20 seconds on its highest level
my guess is that it plays at around 1000-1200 Elo at its highest level so it plays very weakly and really is more of a novelty
but for $4.00 you cant really go wrong and it would probably make a nice gift for a friend that is a casual chess player

Best Regards
Steve

Great post Steve. I bought a key chain about a year ago, maybe a little less. At the time they were only selling for $5.00 in a computer store.
I did not know about the other little machine you wrote about. I will have to keep my eyes open for one of those.
