Currently, the shared leaders are Shredder, The Baron and Kallisto, all with 2 out of 2. It seems that these will also be the leaders after 3 rounds when Kallisto drew Shredder and Baron drew with Diep.
The field is made even by the latest Pocket Shredder, running on an iPac.
more later.

Hi Richard,
Can you broadcast some of the games at Playchess? I am interested to follow your tournament!
Best wishes, Jeroen

As you probably have seen, there were no broadcasts. The games are available though. And Apeldoorn is not that far from here ...
Cu in Pamplona,

Re: Chess Programmer's Tournament 2009
While last night was quite short without much sleep and the last two rounds today were emotionally rather stressful for me, it was just a great tournament again.
Here Hansdamf missed a draw against Shredder, by playing 22. Be4 (and pondering Qxb2??) rather than 22. Bh5
[d] 2r2k2/2p2ppQ/bn2p2B/4q1N1/1bp5/5B2/1P3PPP/5RK1 w - - 4 22
In the last round Hansdamf looked already lost against Joker, and played 31. ...Rxe7 (rook takes knight). Joker decided to take the queen here, probably pawn takes rook is better. So Hansdamf was lucky to even win that game (likely with the little help of Joker).
[d] 1r6/2pbrp1k/pp1p1Ppp/3Rq3/2P1P3/1P6/P4RPP/4Q1K1 w - - 0 32
What do other programs prefer here?
Thanks Richard for organizing the 2nd Programmers Tournament.
Cheers,
Gerd

Crafty only considers fxe7 with a nearly equal score, even after a 5 minute search on good hardware. Never considers anything else.

Re: Chess Programmer's Tournament 2009
As a human I immediately felt that RxQ would be totally lost, While PxR would leave you with a clear advantage of a more powerful piece (R vs N). And indeed after QxR, RxR it turns out the position is so lost as I hardly have seen a lost position ever. Before you know it, it is Q vs R+B+5P, as white being totally powerless to prevent it. Black simply gobbles up all white Pawns by attacking them more than white can defend them, without ever offering the possibility for being checked by the Queen, and without ever leaving any of its own pieces undefended.
I fact, it remind me very much of playing the game of The Maharadja and the Sepoys...
