QUESTION: New York Times Deluxe Talking Touch Chess Computer

Post by Sean Evans »

Hello, what is the actual ELO rating of the New York Times Deluxe Talking Touch Chess Computer??

A knowledgeable person advised me it plays at only 1600 ELO, but it is being advertised at 2000 ELO.

Thank you,

Sean :)

Hi Sean
the rating you see advertised is a USCF rating which generally is 125-150 points LOWER then ELO
So right there you are looking at 1850-1875 Elo
added to that is the fact that the manufacturer has overstated its rating estimate for marketing purposes
on this site you can see a rating of 1700 ELO for it:

however as i own the computer and have played it often myself and against other computers ...my opinion is it is rated closer to 1600 ELO
