Using the 5 piece Nalimov endgame set from a double lyer dvd

Post by tano-urayoan »

Using the 5 piece Nalimov endgame set directly from a double layer dvd

Have anyone try this?

How well it works compared vis a vis running them from
a)internal hard drive
b)external hard drive via usb port
c) usb pen drive

Thank you for your input

It will work but it will just be slow. Worse than all other options.

Is there any data to support that running the TBs from a USB drive would be faster than from a regular hard drive?

Since 8gb usb sticks canbe had for about $30 CDN these days (most time even cheaper) this sounds like the route to go.
I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.

Yes, there is.
You may for example run the Eigenmann endgame test for crafty, 1. from disk. 2. from usb stick. Normally you get better results when using an usb stick. Of coarse it depends on the speed of your disk and stick.
Best is to copy the 5 piece tablebases to memory.
kind regards

You may probe the internet, so you can use 6 piece table bases.
This may be worse than using a dvd!

probing the internet is probably a good option, once the 6men position is on the board.

Flash drives are indeed faster

At the bottom of this page there is a list of benched flash drives:http://www.jens.tauchclub-krems.at/dive ... marks.html

Add some of Shaun Brewer's tests related to Fonzy's:

Even the cheapest 8GB usb stick (less than $20) is always faster than HD based on my exoerience!

I get the same message, but I found something about Brewers tests in a different thread on CCRL:
