Chess is not always about material, It's more about tactics.

If you have even minimum number of pieces at the right side of the board where your opponent's king is not well defended, and you can spot tactics, then the game is over.

White was simply too greedy with 49.a7?(=) most preparing
and defending the own base position moves instead should win soon.
With the big blunder 53.Qb1?? White even gave away the draw.

Yes - White was ahead throughout until he got greedy.

It just tells us two things: Obender has king safety issues. And that the material bonus is overvalued.

Yes - good king safety in particular is crucial for any engine.

I lost Romi's, "Evergreen Game":(--it was from a tournament by Karl-Heinz Sontges. In the game, Romi sacked (lost) just about everything, but still managed to give mate with very little material left while surrounded by a veritable enemy army. I wonder if anyone saved Karl-Heinz's pgn collection?

THANK you! Only now I know what Graham means to say with this position.
How would I have have known from the thread heading alone?
