Best in what terms?
You probably want to look at Core i7 920.
If you want to spend as few money as possible, I like the AMD Phenom II line too, but it won't reach the performance of the Core i7.

1) Core i7 920 D0 -> very good cpu for the price and overclocking very well!
2) Gulftown -> 6 cores/12 threads -> because use the same socket 1366 -> a upgrade for later!

You will need modified X58 based motherboard for upcoming 6 cores Intel processors in q4 2009.jpqy wrote: 2) Gulftown -> 6 cores/12 threads -> because use the same socket 1366 -> a upgrade for later!

Thats quite new info, probably Intel changed decision and it will fit into current motherboards via bios upgrade. Anyway we will see it in 6-7 monthsjpqy wrote:I thought just a bios update was enough!

People who had a lot of spare money bought 2 x Intel Xeon W5580's. Whether it's sane to buy such a machine for a regular user...you be the judge. At least one person here is claiming they are easy to come by in any good shop.Sean Evans wrote: Probably not as they used a different one for the WCCC, as I recall ?!

There are very few people who spend £4,000 - £5,000 on a home computer.Gian-Carlo Pascutto wrote:People who had a lot of spare money bought 2 x Intel Xeon W5580's.
