New Mchess will be...

Post by fern »

...a monster. Hirsh is not just refurbishing the old engine, but creating something enterily new, with just only some the old tricks preserved.
He NEVER would launch anything just somewhat better than old versions.
So you can expect something running in the area of 2900-3000 elo.
If he does not get there, he will not launch anything.

How I know this?

It is hype, there are to many programs that have been continuously under development for MChess to beat. He would be wise to allow it to be a freeware winboard engine.

there are enough freeware engines.

IMO the best is a commercial engine as UCI...

i am willing to pay for a new UCI mchess. and i am sure others too.

Considering when the MCP8 was made ,it was very strong engine with solid play. When I played that engine against new and much stronger engines it was always a fight to the end.
If it is true that new version will be released I will be pleased to buy it and use it.But will see.

Why should he release it for free when it's going to hit 2900-3000 Elo :!: :?:
Why would he do that :!: :?:

the thing is, when Marty Hirsch sold his program, he was betrayed by the distributor in germany.

I want that marty gets the money he deserves. and many units that were sold in the years before when mchess was sold, marty did NOT get the money for the units.

i want that this betrayal gets corrected. and that marty gets a fair amount of money for his product.

marty is a good guy.

he deserves this.

for a long time in the history of computerchess it was a fight between
Genius and Mchess.

Genius was the program that played ACCURATE, kind of Tarrasch of computerchess.

Mchess played speculative.

i had many discussions with Ossi Weiner about how the future of computerchess will develop. Accurate chess or speculative chess.

Mchess brought A.I. into computerchess.

the programs before Mchess were mainly search based programs.
Mchess was different. it had very complex and cool main lines and evaluations. it SAW things in the game that was amazing to us.

it used knowledge.

in those years, when we talked about A.I., we took Mchess as the example for A.I. in computerchess.

many people were impressed by Mchess. Mark Uniacke e.g. told me that he was very impressed by Mchess. And did develop Hiarcs like an intelligent pendant. hiarcs grew older by following Mchess on the path of intelligent chess programs.

I have not that info, but I can make an educated guess: if asociated to the new full stuff that the soft house will deliver, I would say something around 70 bucks for the NON Deep version....

For the same reason I cannot tell nothing about the 25 test games played againts Rybka by a beta version, 40 moves in two hours.
