Very interesting! My favourite engines today are Rybka, Shedder, Stockfish and I'll now vote them a hundred times:) Can you detect the enthusiastic voter's fraud?

Well, micro-Max is written in C. But it is well commented, and about 30 pages of explanation of the source code are presented on my website. So indeed I do consider it a model program for a beginning Chess programmer.

Worked fine for me.
For the record favourite engines are Pro Deo, Stockfish, Sjeng and Rybka. It was difficult deciding which one to leave out!
