Greetings, ya'all.
So, it's been about 4-5 years since I've been active in this community, best I can tell. Back in the fall of '02 and spring of '03, I wrote a crappy little engine called Trueno, and had a LOT of fun doing so. I then got into running some authors-only chess tournaments on ICC, which was also tons of fun. Since then, chess programming has kind of taken a back seat as I've been busy doing little things like getting a Comp Sci degree, getting married, and buying a house. But I've always had it in the back of my mind, and been pondering various different approaches.
Anyway, I've decided to get back in the saddle. So, with about a week's worth of work, I've put together a simple little c# engine that just barely plays legal chess (sometimes). I'm very excited, though it's not much to actually get excited about yet.
That said, the project doesn't have a name yet. Anybody know where there's a reasonably-reliable list of engines somewhere? I want to make sure I don't pick a name that's too close to anything that's out there.
Glad to see this community is still going strong. Looking forward to diving back in with you all!

There are a few lists that are maintained.chessguy wrote:Greetings, ya'all.

Welcome back Andrew !
I hope your new engine will be ready for my next Promo tourney, that will start in a month or so. Trueno is already in anyway.
You'll love the Promo, there is even a live broadcast with chat

Besides the main engine lists you will need to worry about conflicts with other unreleased engine names. Look at the Private Engine List:chessguy wrote: ...the project doesn't have a name yet. You might want to take a look at the Clone List too.

These are names you definitely want to avoid!
I recommend that you Google your chosen name very carefully.
