Rybka 232a vs Cyclone xTreme ended 25.5 - 14.5

I wonder how much benefit Rybka gets from using an opening book, next 40 games i will test Rybka (without an Opening Book) vs Cyclone with a selected opening book to be recommended by the CCC readers. What Opening Book do you recommend under Arena and what is your prediction. :?:

Engine Score Ry Cy S-B
1: Rybka v2.3.2a.w32 25.5/40 ········································ 0=1=11=1=10=111111==0100=01====11111===0 369.75
2: Cyclone xTreme 14.5/40 1=0=00=0=01=000000==1011=10====00000===1 ········································ 369.75

This is what I have found out so far, as the quality of the opening books are created from games of players that are rated lower than rybka 232a, and as you see some opening books are so inferior that the quality is worse than a player rated 1400. Even if we use a great opening book like Rybka.abk sometimes the level of play by Rybka 232a without an opening is not worse than by using a great opening book.

PS: Here is my experiment:

This is what I have found so far to my surprise. These previous 40 games were played with both engines using Rybka.abk. But I always thought that Opening books were a collection of openings from players that are rated lower than Rybka 232a. Which prompt me to make an experiment. What if Rybka 232a play without an Opening book to see if it scores higher than with a good opening book like Rybka.abk, well here is the answer Rybka without an opening book is scoring as good as using an opening book.

Engine Score Ry Cy S-B
1: Rybka v2.3.2a.w32 26.0/40 ········································ =====100=11===0111=011101111111=101110=0 364.00

Therefore, my recommendation is not to use an opening books for engines that do not have a better opening book than Rybka.abk as the game between Bright vs Cyclone :wink:
