Well, actually I did _not_ ask for it , anyhow I always read your posts with interest because are never trivial....and I usually like them, also in this case, I never wrote that I don't like itGian-Carlo Pascutto wrote: Anyway, you asked for a third party opinion and that's exactly what you got. The authors already claim it's a derived work of Glaurung, I believe, so I'm not sure what you were thinkingkingliveson wrote:I expect someone to come out and claim stockfish not to be original work soon.
Neither are all ideas in Glaurung and Stockfish completely original inventions by their authors. I think someone beat them to that alpha-beta thing.
The important thing is that Stockfish is LEGAL.

Maybe not in the literal sense of the word, but hey:mcostalba wrote:Well, actually I did _not_ ask for itGian-Carlo Pascutto wrote: Anyway, you asked for a third party opinion and that's exactly what you got. What you do with the result, or if you don't like it, is your problem.
...that's really asking for it in the figurative sense"You have the robbo sources and the sf sources, please check yourself (or someone that knows how to do) how well robbo fits in sf"
So basically I confirm Stockfish doesn't contain any RobboLitto code, but that the authors did take some ideas from RobboLitto which they thought could help their program. These ideas are completely negligible compared to the immense effort of writing an original chess engine from scratch.
Also note that as Stockfish is GPL, and RobboLitto is GPL, it would be perfectly ok to just copy code over, if it were technically feasible, and *if* the RobboLitto authors actually had the legal right to slap a license on the product of their reverse engineering.

I am running a little round-robin with the latest release of Stockfish 1.6, Stockfish 1.5.1, Naum 4, Rybka 3, RobboLito .085g3, and Zappa Mexico II. All running on 2 threads except Robbo* and Naum. I forget to change Naum settings and too many games had already been played. I will have to run another test. I will post result soon.

Re: Stockfish 1.6
Are there any plans to release an opening book with the mighty Stockfish?
An integrated UCI opening book would really make a lovely release.

Kind of funny how his Rybka 3 loses to every engine under the sun. Makes one wonder whether he is really using Rybka 3.SzG wrote:Please come back after 2000 games.solis wrote: look at this score.

Re: Stockfish 1.6
Anybody who downloaded a pirated copy of Rybka 3 (and I'm not suggesting that anybody in this thread did) should realise that fake copies were deliberately put on the net. This could well explain some of the poor results posted around the forums. If anybody with a fake Rybka 3 tries out the same positions with Rybka 2.3.2a, they'll see what I mean.SzG wrote:Please come back after 2000 games.solis wrote: look at this score.
