... which would be between Loop 13.5/6 and Rybka 3 mp in the IPON list?
It has to fullfill the folowing conditions:
1. There is no successor to that engine already in the List
2. The Author is known (a real person)
3. No (known) branch of an open source engine
4. UCI
I want to have a diverse rating list as possible to have a good field of opponent to play against. It is not usefull to have 20 Fruits in there (there are already enough)
Thanks for any good proposal in advance!
Bye
Ingo

In case you are refering to Protector, that is a Fruit/Toga branch.
Thx

The link is my WWW button. It fulfills all your conditions, but it's between Loop and Rybka just in alphabetical orderIWB wrote:If there is an engine called Protej could you please post a link.

Same as with Rybka, if the author just would never have mentioned Fruit or Toga in his read.me, he could have saved himself a lot of trouble. People are being punished for their honesty if they say that they are using similar ideas, but not identical code, nor even just functionally/algorithmically identical code. Protector is open source so that makes it even worse. Calling it a branch of Toga is different than calling it a clone I admit but I still feel this does not do the program justice.IWB wrote:If there is an engine called Protej could you please post a link.Brunetti wrote:Protej.

I can't say that I have studied Protector's code, just read through one of the older versions months ago, but I just did not recognize anything there that would make me say anything like
a) "Protector is a further development of Fruit but still has many things the same."
I would choose option b) if given the choice:
b) "Protector was started from scratch just still using some ideas in common with a lot of modern engines".
I think that would be fairer to say of this program.

Single core is *so* 20th century.

But I take an MP engine as well, I just run it first with one thread or process - when it is good enough it gets an MP rating as well. Read my "Rules"

for what it's worth, I've always treated Protector as an original engine rather than a derivative.
However, discussions on this issue are best carried out elsewhere.
Cheers,
Graham.
