This is Thinker 51D passive using wb2uci. Can't get 54D to work, no patience to figure out wb2uci. But check out this gem... this is incredible to see from an engine.

Re: Thank you Lance Perkins
one reason i didnt want to try too hard was because i read somewhere that it decreases thinker's elo by about 80 elo. Anyone know if thats true?
yea Wael, I wonder if there is a game like this among humans in a similar position, im sure there is. Maybe Kasparov or Fischer game I'd guess

Not true. If you want me to put my Thinker 5.4D Inert wb2uci folder in CCRL public for you, just let me know.maxchgr wrote:one reason i didnt want to try too hard was because i read somewhere that it decreases thinker's elo by about 80 elo. Anyone know if thats true?

All you need to do is rename the details in the wb2uci file according to which exe you want to use.
Happy to help just as others help me at times.
Cheers,
Graham.

Thanks Graham, it worked. And I think I understand how it works now.
I couldn't find the link where I read that the adapter makes Thinker weaker, but I think the person was saying that it causes Thinker's hash to be reset every move or something like that. But I guess if you say its not true, then it's not true.
Is it true that 5.4D was not intended for release? And on the rybka forum some people were stating that 5.4D lost some of its style. Anybody has an opinion/knowledge about this?

From memory, Thinker 5.4a Inert had the most attractive playing style, but the later versions still play attractively too.maxchgr wrote:Thanks Graham, it worked. And I think I understand how it works now.

Originally 5.4D was "found" on what was supposedly supposed to be a private area. Later it was released publicly.

I didn't know it was officially released.Graham Banks wrote: From memory, Thinker 5.4a Inert had the most attractive playing style, but the later versions still play attractively too.

This is what Kerwin wrote about the discovery of 5.4D:
http://www.open-aurec.com/wbforum/viewt ... 37#p189378There is no harm in downloading the file. Its just that it is not an official release. It is not tested thoroughly and most changes are experimental. Its OK to tell users about it. They just have to be also informed about the status of that build.
Anyway, this is soon 1 year ago. Strange we haven't seen any new Thinker yet.

Actually I believe a 5.4J version does exist, however it remains private for now.Martin T wrote:Anyway, this is soon 1 year ago. Strange we haven't seen any new Thinker yet.
Also does anyone know of a place where I can download the last public version of Thinker? Since it's former home at geocities no longer exists, of course.
