The position is from the following game

Here's what Stockfish-1.6.3 (8 threads, no endgame tables) had before a power failure shut down my system. Note the scores of 0 that were not maintained.

Re: a test position

Post by Eelco de Groot »

I think that Rainbow Serpent scores the pawn on the a-file a bit lower than Stockfish, but of course also not ever recognizing that it is practically impossible to promote it. I'm quite happy with Rainbow Serpent reaching a depth of 30 plies here :) Some changes in search not related to the position. It does know that it is a good idea to bring the King over to the pawn on a7 and keeping the other King away from the corner, at least it should give a bigger bonus for that than Stockfish, but in this case that is not enough, it just changes the PV I think.

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Apart from Zappa, did you find any other engine able to solves this? Here are a few of my unsuccessful tries:

Uri Blass wrote:I wonder how much time does your favourite program need to see the draw and if tablebases are productive.

The position is from the following game

http://www.iccf-webchess.com/MakeAMove.aspx?id=234939

[D]R7/P4p2/5k2/8/6P1/r7/7K/8 w - - 0 50
Note that this is a draw even w/o the f7 pawn (with the K in g7 of course). A classical draw position. Only if the pawn is in column f white wins.
