I beat Stockfish!

There must be something wrong with my computer. :D But until I discover the problem, I'll simply enjoy this. I've never even drawn a game before.

Very nicely done! Programs have trouble seeing the danger in this type of position underestimating the power of 17 f5!! with the idea of weaving a mating net. I suppose at very fast time controls the program saw Black as better due to piece placement etc. and only after 17. f5!! did the eval start to drop for Black and quickly rise for White. Black's 16...Re8?? was costly! It appears Black needed to instead play 16...f5!! taking much of the wind out of your sails. A bit ironic to say the least.

Nothing wrong with your computer. Good Game!

Yes, I was expecting Black to play f5, and was quite surprised (and happy) when Stockfish chose something else.

was stockfish using all 8 cores?? that would be incredibly impressive.

and congratulations! it is quite thrilling when chance hands you these lucky hands against the silicon monsters. i beat hiarcs 12 once in a fast TC game and still have found memories. i fear the next generation will not be so vulnerable to KS pawn marches.

Indeed! I'd be happy as well! The more I come back and look at this game the more I think this would make a good test position.

Black to move 16...? 16...f5!! the correct move Avoid bxa4 and Re8 etc.

I know Rybka has a lot of trouble here on a Q6600.

I'm considering a request to Chessgames.com if they'd like to add this game.

Are you a master? You played like one here, especially considering the crazy T/C. :)

I do not think that it is a special problem of rybka and I am not sure if 16...f5 is the best move.

Naum also does not suggest 16...f5 for black at least not at tournament time control(it may be interesting to see what programs suggest with many hours of analysis but I do not plan to give my computer many hours to analyze the position).

Hi, Louis! Maybe you should tell us your FICS handle, to add you to our 'noplay' lists
Just joking. Well done!

Congrats Louis!

You found Stockfish's weak point and hit it with full strength :)

Stockfish has no understanding of pawn storms when both kings are castled on king side. Usually deep search rescues it from trouble, but not at this time. Problems were behind horizon.

No. I haven't played tournament chess in about 30 years. Now I play occasional fast games against various engines, mostly to keep my ego in check.

I had to quit playing on FICS. I was becoming addicted to online chess. But since I almost always lose to chess programs, I've avoided that problem by only playing against engines. :D
