Now Rdd7 gives a huge advantage, but that's not an easy move to find, especially with the clock ticking.

What if after Rdd7, Topalov moves Queen to c2?

That would be a big loss for black, according to Stockfish 1.7.1:

Code: Select all

 27	+84.13	46.5M	0:38.94	Kg3 Qc1 Rde7 Qg1+ Kf4 Qh2+ Kf5 Qh3+ Ke5 Qh5+ Kd4 Qh4+ Kd3 Qh8 Rc7+ Kb8 Rb7+ Kc8 Rgc7+ Kd8 Rb8+ Kxc7 Rxh8 Kc6 Nxb3 Kd5 Nc5 Kxc5 Ra8 Kb4 f4 a3 f5 Kc5 Rxa3 Kd5 Ra5+ Kd6 Ke4 Kd7
This variation starts with a long check sequence for black but as soon as there are no more good checks, white itself checks black until winning the queen against a rook.

Actually SF prefers moves like a3 over Qc2.

I think Anand might have to look to draw here. This is a very complicated position to be trying to analyze to a win in such short time. He could easily lose his way.

ps Oh no, Rg4 played. He did lose his way and will now have to fight to draw, I think.

This game has now become painful to watch! I'd love to see the look on Anand face postmortem.

Too bad he missed it. May be next time.
