With the way Anand has been playing of late, I think Topalov might win today. He does have a very small positional edge.

interestingly computers seem to think otherwise; the eval tends to rise from favoring black towards 0.00 as depth increases.

That's what I would expect them to show in the position below.

Because material is even. But that sidelined knight that was on the edge of the board was not well placed. That why I said I thought white had a very small edge.

don't think it was a panic move, he's a couple knight moves from a blockade and probably just wanted to simplify.

btw gabor, ted took advantage of you -- topalov will not accept or offer draws & a perp wasn't within a 5 move horizon.

Anand played Nc6. What was wrong with Bxd5?

Probably nothing...it appears Anand has had other plans steering it into a basic ending which he should manage easily. I hope so. Topalov is dangerously close to usurping the crown.
