I do not intend to purchase R4 but since commercial advertising is supposed to prohibited on this forum, I wonder why "Anti advertising" is also not permitted. Why do people have to be so mean spirited? I wonder what is your motive?

Hi man !

Any commercial advertising ! Just my regrets ! My country being in economical crisis in all Kama Sutra positions , Ruxy rests to envie the happy owners of this new chess engine. That's all !

1. No updates
2. No bug fix
3. Unreasonable amount of time between releases
4. No 3 + as promised
5. Table base, hash and display bugs
6. No communication for weeks on end on R forum

I say now it’s time to return the favor and keep our purchase date a secret. I am calling for a boycott until vas returns to ethics he displayed for R 1 coupled with an apology for treating his customers like crap

All those with me say I
1. No updates.

since when do other engines give updates beyond a bug fix? I never heard of Fritz doing this.

2. No bug fix
the bugs weren't that bad

3.Unreasonable amount of time between releases
No more than some other engines

4 No 3 + as promised
your only valid point

5 Table base, hash and display bugs
Like I said devastating. COMPLETELY stopped me from using the program.

6 No communication for weeks on end on R forum
You get TONS more communication from the Rybka forum than you do from other engine developers. I have lost count of the number of personal emails & messages Vas has replied to - but I never got a single word out of some of the other programmers

1. No updates. Yeah well, Vas used to give updates. Oh, yeah, and HIARCS gets updated periodically (12.1, 11.2, etc)... and for FREE.... Vas needs to take a page out of Mark Uniacke's book. Other than that, yeah, no updates isn't really that big.

2. No bug fix. Other than that tablebases make it worse in the Fritz GUI (which for some reason is the most popular GUI right now), it is unable to solve some puzzles (though this one isn't very bad, true. Still, it would be nice to have it fixed.), and it behaves weirdly during analysis of certain positions (CURSE YOU 5.12!). Oh and the persistent hash bugs, but I never really use persistent hash, so I don't really know what those are. Compared to some engines (like Zappa, which I think makes a weird pawn move every few thousand games or something like that), Rybka is _really_ buggy.

3. Unreasonable time between releases. Well, when it says that R4 will come out "around summer 2009", the time is a little.... long. Oh and e.g. Fritz (which is probably the most used engine right now) comes out once a year.... so does Shredder. HIARCS though has a release schedule similar to Rybka, but at least they accurately predict when HIARCS will be ready.

4. A VERY valid point.

5. TB, hash, and display bugs. See my response to #2.

6. No communication. All the other programmers must hate you. SMK, Mark Uniacke, GCP, Alex Naumov, Aaron Becker, Miguel Ballicora, Tord Romstad, Marco Costalba, Joona Kiiski, ALL actively give help and support. Now the Fritz guys give less support than Vas, so there's really nothing to complain about.....

Me, I will not purchase because:
a) I do not test or organize engine-engines tourns.
b) every top 50 program is better than me and defeat me 95 times of 100. Why to get another?
c) absolutely committed to purchase new programs only if a real interesting gui is offered and it is not the case.

Of course you get updates for Fritz. With the GUI updates you get often an updated engine as well.

Whatever Rybka fanboys try to defende their idol,Vasik has proved to be the worst ever author of a commercial chess engine regarding his actions toward the customers in many aspects....a lot of black clouds are shadowing his reputation and he'll pay for that, sooner than later....

Oh come on, compared to ChessBase's customer support Vas is amazing..... :P

But a lot of other commercial (Naum, Shredder, HIARCS, Komodo) and freeware (Stockfish, Daydreamer, Gaviota, and a LOT of others [those are the only ones I can think of right now]) authors have VERY good support.
