In Shredder Classic using multiPV=3, at each depth the GUI displays 3 lines, then just 1 line.

Werner wrote:Hi,
just discussed this via email and got the answer: all is ok in Shredder GUI

ponder setting is different in Shredder (extras engines pb)
hash setting is an extra setting in Shredder too (extras engines hash)
multi PV works in Shredder too with F5 and F6
own book setting in Shredder is not in engine options too (use engine book)

... and the engine loads here ok in Shredder GUI!
Can it be used for analysis? I have had problems with that in the past.

Yes I think so - see this analysis output inside Shredder GUI:

Hi Werner,

Komodo's uci command parser functions normally in Linux version. i.e you can type commands in cli window and see output/reply.
Windows compile does not allow typing in cli window. I hacked the earlier v1.0 version to allow this, but didn't this time.
I don't think this affects use in chess guis (except Shredder).
Komodo has a big problem with the Shredder gui. It is not recognized as uci engine at all .

Jim.
Jim (or anyone who can help),

Can you help me understand why that doesn't work? I would like the cli to work in windows. What I don't understand is how it can work as a UCI engine and yet not produce output to stdout.

It's probably a windows thing and I'm not a windows developer, but I would like for this work the same in linux and windows.

Also, I don't get the shredder thing. I get mixed reports, some say it works and other say it doesn't work in shredder. But I would like to figure that out too.

After installing komodo-11-32-ja.exe in Arena, I have a question, probably best answered by Don.

I notice there is not a "personalityFile" option in the UCI configuration window. Does this new version not use personalities? Strange, as there is a sample.per file included with the download, as well as a personality.README.txt file.

Regards
Hi Dave,

I bundled the sample.per file with the download without checking.
Don must have removed this option with the new version.

Jim.
There is no personality file in this version. I got almost no feedback and I did not keep up with evaluation changes, so it's broken anyway.

Two questions:

1. Is Komodo 1.1 a Single-Engine or MP too?
2. Will Komodo sometime be a commercial Engine, or further as free?

Komodo 1.1 JA (UCI)
by Don Dailey & Larry Kaufman

Windows/Linux 64/32 Intel p.g.o

What's New:
1. About 15 ELO stronger than Komodo 1.0
2. Improved endgame handling.
3. UCI searchmoves feature implemented
4. UCI MultiPV feature implemented.
5. Polyglot book support.

Jim.
I would like to add a few comments. Komodo 1.1 is improved mostly in the endgame play. The ELO gain is modest because we have been unable to spend much time working on it due to another chess related project that does not involved Komodo. But it still represents a clear improvement.

In addition to the feature list above, some were concerned about the lack of under-promotion, so Komodo 1.1 knows how to under-promote to a knight in most situations, namely when it gives check which covers 99% of the important cases involving knight promotion.

Komodo 1.1 is single processor only.

I am working on an MP version next. It's unlikely there will be another single processor Komodo release before an MP release, however the MP version will likely be at a modest price.

Hi Don,

Replacing

Code: Select all

'readyinp()'
with

Code: Select all

'bioskey()'
from Olithink gets the console i/o working, but they are other problems. typing 'uci' will bring up a message
like

Code: Select all

'UCI_k          =  0x00002b610,'

Works fine here, no problem with MV in the Classic!

Of course with an increasing depth it needs longer to output the 2nd and 3rd line, but that is that way for every engine!
