you will not regret it; it loves making the board burn. i am also amazed that it intuitively spotted giri's e5 move from yesterday -- you will of course never come close to winning a game against this guy, but you should enjoy losing. :)

You say you are (were) a ~2100 ELO player.
Do you think there's much difference for you to be crushed by R3 or R4?

I am also playing engines sometimes, but have NEVER bought commercial ones.
I'm quite satisfied with playing freeware engines under Arena. I really enjoy playing
weaker engines against which I have chances to win, or somewhat stronger ones which usually beat me, but not always!

I cannot enjoy games where I KNOW there are absolutely no chances for me to win or draw.

Of course there is no difference, that's the reason I claim so much about waiting better guis, frills, etc. The R4 question was thinking in its aquarium gui.

It really depends Fernando, I purchased it to help my chess. If you want to learn something i'd say yes, Rybka 4.0 seems to play certain position far better than others. So although I am not a fan of Vas, I am a fan of his engine.
I agree! Rybka 4.0 has already challenged me to learn some stuff in one of my openings!

And Fern, if you are looking for a fun engine to play against, I do recommend the Bobby Junior GUI. The engine has different rated personalities that each have their own opening book within the GUI.

The Bobby Junior GUI is only good for playing against the Junior engine that comes with it. It is useless for analysis but since you aren't doing that anyway it might not matter.

i don't recommend it unless he can pirate it. imo those guys don't deserve any more cash. they've screwed over their customers six ways to sunday.

I don't recommend anything be pirated since that is theft! Pure and simple!

And no I wasn't completely happy with how slow World Chess Live was at completing the GUI but I did get what I paid for.
