Older engines in newer GUIs (Fritz)

Post by Dayffd »

I have just started a new tournament using some older engines e.g. Junior 9 along with a newer engine, Crab. For whatever reason a newer GUI such as Fritz 11 or Fritz 12 doesn't "see" Junior 9 while the Fritz 8 GUI does. I don't like the idea of c/p Jr 9.eng and .dll into, say, Chessbase 11 unless I copy the entire engines folder and put into those...is that what needs to be done? While writing this I now wonder if that is what I have to do. Anyway, any comments/advice?

Hi,
I do not have Junior 9 - but Junior 8. I just installed the engine in folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\ChessBase\Engines\
on my Windows 7 64bit system (.eng and .dll)
And I had no problem loading the engine into Deep Fritz 11 GUI.

Perhaps you installation is not correct?

I think in Chess Program 10, 11, I do not have an engines folder as such. I will check...I do not have an Engines folder in those folders. I should maybe just copy the engines folder into them and see how that works, yes? Be a couple of days, though. Thank you for the pointer...too old I am, maybe. :)

Hi David !

 I'm old also !

Don't go in ChessProgram 10, 11 or 12.......
Please put in C:\Program Files\ChessBase\Engines both Junior 9.eng and Junior 9.dll files. The sub-folder "Engines" isn't in "ChessProgram" but in "ChessBase" folder.
You'll see the engine under any Fritz 6.................12 GUI

Silvian
