This is a nullmove issue. Gaviota does not prune with nullmove (it reduces), so it generally does ok in this type of problems.

This is the perfect place for Vincent's double null move. The position passes a lot of the standard "Can I do null move safely now?" tests. Another test that will help find the problem is legal move count. If any player is severely limited in legal moves, it does not make sense to perform the null move pruning at the root.

Chessmaster 9000 solved this one more or less instantly. John Merlino
used to be CCC's Chessmaster specialist, but he does'nt drop in
here any more, at least not that I know of. But I had a sneaking
suspicion CM would bring home the bacon.

used to be CCC's Chessmaster specialist, but he does'nt drop in
here any more, at least not that I know of. But I had a sneaking
suspicion CM would bring home the bacon.
