New version of Cyclone?

Post by alpha123 »

I was browsing through some old results in the CCRL forum, and I found this post:
Norman Schmidt wrote:Hi Aser, Graham,

Well, the xTreme II (Stormpack versions) haven't really seemed to show any improvement...
except on an inconsistent basis. a bit of a disappointment...oh well. back to the drawing board!

i'll work on a new version and release it later this year...
i'm ambitiously focusing next on bitboards, and parallel search.

many thanks to you and Graham for your testing!

Norm
So I was wondering what happened to that new version. So much for "later this year".... :?

Norm, personally I'd be much more interested in a bitboards-based Cyclone than some even stronger version of Fire. Perhaps after Fire 1.4 is released, you will work more on this?

Hi,

yes, that can be very interesting. After the Ipp Fam. engines developement of Cyclone / Grapefruit / Toga stopped!

My words, but I don't think that Norman have the time and motivation to do that.

Perhaps an other programmer have interest to work on Cyclone. I don't think that this is a problem for Norman.
