Power Chess 2.0 ?

Post by Dr.Joy »

Tow months ago I met the very strong GM Anton Korobov (who is also a very nice person by the way) and we spoke about computer chess among other things. I showed him the best game I ever played which was against WChess engine (Power Chess) and he was astonished by the game to the point he asked me a copy of it with the possibility of publishing it. This meeting reminds me about that nice chess program and I tried to reinstall it on my 2 laptops with Windows 7 and Windows XP in vain.the program is not compatible with neither of them. I tried searching the internet for a solution and was shocked to read that there is a version 2.0 of this amazing program released in 1999

Have anybody heard about such a release? if so where to get it? thank you in advance

Maybe you could show us that game.....
Power Chess 2 I have and cerrtainly it does not work winth W7.
For old programs I advice to get an old pc or notebook - you cdan get one almost for nothing- and make use of it to run those obsolete stuff.
My best

Hi !

Yes , Power Chess 2.0 exists ! I like a lot ! Works great under Win95 ( ! ).
You can run it on a moderm PC but only on a Virtual PC ! So you still need a Win95 CD. On Win 98 is buggy (only long time controls work ) !
A great GUI , a great chess engine of Dave Kittinger............and the full book of Nimzowitsch-"My System" !

Silvian

Hi again !

Power Chess 2.0 ( or Power Chess 99 ) was a simple update of Power Chess 98. Nothing more .
On February 22, 1999, Sierra announced a major reorganization of the company, resulting in the shutdown of several of their development studios, cutbacks on others and the relocation of key projects and employees from those studios to Bellevue. About 250 people in total lost their jobs. Development groups within Sierra such as PyroTechnix and Books That Work Inc were shut down. Also shut down was Yosemite Entertainment, the division occupying the original headquarters of
Sierra On-Line. They sold the rights of Headgate Studios back to the original owner. With the exception of the warehouse and distribution department, the entire studio was shut down. Game designers Al Lowe and Scott Murphy were laid off. Lowe had just started work on Leisure Suit Larry 8. Murphy was involved in a Space Quest 7 project at the time. Layoffs continued on March 1, when Sierra terminated 30 employees at the previously unaffected Dynamix, 15 percent of their workforce.
