Google for "Oracle sues Google over Java use in Android"
Most languages are not owned by any body but are controlled by ANSI and ISO. Sun (which owned Java) was bought by Oracle and Oracle is now in lawsuit with Google for using Java ideas.
This is the only thing I can think of that is even more evil than software patents.
Aside: Bad fruitage of computer language ownership

Well I was not expecting something good about Sun's acquisition by Oracle. The interesting thing is that Oracle itself had extensively used Java in their products long before buying Sun.Dann Corbit wrote:Google for "Oracle sues Google over Java use in Android"

One day, human civilization will look at this patented nonsense as an example of the selfish myopic culture we live in.
Looks like the pirates bought the Spaniard galleons and now they are suing the Peruvians for their gold jewelry

Smells like SCO spirit *sigh*Dann Corbit wrote:Google for "Oracle sues Google over Java use in Android"
Let's hope for the best, as Java is such a great language.

Not just that, the JVM is amazing and hosts quite a few other languages (Scala, Groovy, Clojure, and ports of others).OliverUwira wrote:Smells like SCO spirit *sigh*Dann Corbit wrote:Google for "Oracle sues Google over Java use in Android"

I thought this actually was about software patents.Dann Corbit wrote:Google for "Oracle sues Google over Java use in Android"

The Android runtime supposedly uses some software techniques that Sun has patented for use in the JVM.

This is ridiculous. I hope no one is gonna issue a patent for using alpha-beta.

They can't. I'm pretty sure the guy who invented it is dead.bhlangonijr wrote:I think you are right: http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/ne/pdfs/FI ... =mncol;txtBo Persson wrote:I thought this actually was about software patents.Dann Corbit wrote:Google for "Oracle sues Google over Java use in Android"
