Re: Critte 0.90 released

Post by mhalstern »

Richard,

I haven't tested the GTB suport. I see that the distro includes gtb32.dll and gtb64.dll. I already have different versions of these in my critter directory. Critter and gaviota share a directory as the \gtb (tablebase) directory is just under it.

Should I put 0.90 in a new directory with the new dll's, and change the uci option to find the gtb files elsewhere? Please advise on what to do with the dll versions.

I am holding off creating the new UCI until I hear back from you.

Thanks for the update!

Thanks

this engine has just ripped rybka 4 up on my (32bit) pc. out of 10 games (i know it is only a small number, but i was just trying to get a rough indicatoin of strength) rybka didnt score one win and lost 3 games.

Hi Ingo,

gtb64.dll is in the same directory as the .exe!
Did you see any Gabiota Table Base Hits in the engine window under Chessbase GUI with the new version?

Under Chessbase ... why should anyone want to use this ;-)

Honestly I do not see why there should be a difference between the GUIs in Tbs handling especialy if the tbs, like the GTB are a uci option. I see that Critter is using GTB in default setting only as root and I just saw a 4 pc endgame mating in zero time (KQ vs kr), so the enigne is using the GTB for sure - in the classic GUI ... !

Maybe there is a bug in CB transmitting pathes, I remember that there where problems with the Sbases as well in the past, but cant remember what exactly ... I have no idea, sorry.

It seems that this is the solution to your problem.

The enigne is using GTB in default only in the root position. If I am not wrong this means it accesses the GTB only when there are 5 or less pieces on the board (depending of your GTB-Set). You will not see tbs hits until the position is already on the board, and then it will be very fast ...

Does this help?

Hi Ingo,

no, because under engine parameter I change Gaviota Table Use to "Everywhere"!

Same setting here with Critter 0.80 under Chessbase GUI and Gaviota Tables works without any problems and I can see the Table Base hits in the engine window.

I think, tbs work inside Chessbase GUI too.

When I first setup a position and analyzed it I could not see tb acess at once - but after the 2nd try it works.
Then I started once more and let the engine run:

Critter 0.80 64-bit 1CPU - Schüle,W, Blitz:60'+15"

Hi Werner,

same position under Chessbase GUI:

Critter 0.90 no Gaviota Tablebase Hits
Critter 0.80 with Gaviota Tablebase Hits!

Also no Gaviota Tablebase Hits with Critter 0.90 in the second try!

Sincerely Christian Goralski
