please try again with an own folder for Critter 0.90 and copy all new files in it. This is what I did and what the author suggest.

That's great news, I'm personally looking forward to the Linux portrvida wrote:Unfortunately not. However, I did some work on a linux port. Currently it compiles without errors with gcc and even runs fine single threaded, but it crashes too often for my taste when running with more than 1 core. I guess on Mac OSX it would be the same. But keep your fingers crossed, maybe by the time of the next release I will sort things out.

I join Richard on the list of Linux users waiting for that port!!ppetrov wrote:That's great news, I'm personally looking forward to the Linux portrvida wrote:Unfortunately not. Re: Critte 0.90 released
Thanks Richard, great engine! IN STS suite with 10s limit version 0.90 got 1138/1300 (0.80 1094). Also great result in EET without any tablebases 87/100. BTW are You the only person, who program/test Critter? Or is it possible anymore to make so strong engine alone?

Re: Critte 0.90 released
Hi Werner,
own folder for the engine is here: G:\Programme (x86)\ChessBase\Engines\Critter 0.90 x64
Files in the folder:
book.cbk
Critter_0.90_64bit_SSE4.exe
gtb64.dll
Folder for the Gaviota Tablebase is here:
J:\Gaviota TBs
It doesn`t work here under Chessbase GUI! Under Shredder GUI it works without any problems!
Where is my mistake?
Sincerely Christian Goralski

Hi Christian,
as I wrote in CSS Forum: it is perhaps a known issue with Chessbase GUI and the parameters of the engine.
- in the position above you only see tb hits when you change engine settings to: Tablebase usage: everywhere
- when you install the engine with this parameter set
- when you load this so installed engine
Here in my tests it does not help to change this engine parameter when engine is loaded default via engine options (right klick in engine window).

Re: Critte 0.90 released
Hi Richard,
I have 2 Questions:
a) why is tablebase usage set to root per default and not to everywhere ?
b) after installation in Chessbase the engine looks like this:
[ENGINE]
Name=Critter 0.90 64-bit1C
Author=Richard Vida
Filename=C:\Users\Werner\Programme\Arena\Engines\Critter\0.90\Critter_0.90_64bit.exe
[OPTIONS]
UCI_Chess960=true
OwnBook=false
Book File=
Threads=1
GaviotaTbPath=c:\gtb
GaviotaTbCache=32
What does the engine now play in Chessbase?? Chess 960 per default??
And inside engine options there is no entry to set chess960 to false.
Perhaps I have to edit the eng file manually ??
