Komodo beta release imminent

Post by Don »

Jim Ablett is working on the next komodo release. Before it's out I want to say something about it.

It is to be considered a beta release. I do not want it to be officially rated yet until I know that I will not need to make any "bug fix" releases. Of course if you want to run informal test matches feel free to report your results.

My primary object is to shake out any bugs, primary with various user interfaces on various windows platforms. Does it crash on your tester? Does it lose on time, etc...

I am calling this release Komodo 1.3b1. The official 1.3 release may have additional ELO improvements if we find any between now and then that will not affect the interface or usability in any way.

Our private testing shows this release to be 50 ELO stronger, but your mileage may vary as we have only tested at extremely fast time controls. I think it's more likely to be about 30 ELO.

Hi Don,

thats perfect, so I know I can test so far other engines ... many updates at these times are available.

Very interesting, I will test it in SWCR if you released the official version.

But, I have different other machines for testing :-)
So I will look in the beta version and perhaps I found a little bit.

Have thanks for your work.
Waiting phase is to end, new Komodo will be released soon ... stop :-)

Best for you, your family, for myself :-) and have a nice Xmas!
For the other readers too!

Thx for sharing your program with us.

I have two questions to you.

The name is ugly for an intelligent game, because this animal is really stupid.

Why can´t it hear of the name "Socrates"?

This name has soo much history.

My second question is for mp-support.

Do you have any plans?

Thx in advance and all the best.

Ok Don,
thanks a lot - we will test this beta release only to detect any bugs when running under our conditions and GUIs.

Have a nice Christmas!

Komodo is appropriate because Komodo the program is a really stupid program!

Why can´t it hear of the name "Socrates"?
Previous programs of mine bore the same Socrates - but Socrates was a philosopher. I don't think it's really that appropriate for a chess program :-)

Socrates also believed and promoted some ideas that I disagree with - such as "immortality of the soul", but this is not the appropriate forum to discuss this in.

This name has soo much history.

Yes! But I'm not projecting any dates yet.

Thx in advance and all the best.

I agree here that the name of the chess engine is too stupid....but Don is the author and he's free to call it whatever he wants....

Then I'm really looking forward to it becoming more intelligent! :P
For what it's worth I like the name Komodo. 8-)

Compliments of the season to you Don, and thanks again for your tremendous engine.

Previous releases contained Windows and linux executables, but neither source code nor Mac binaries. Will this one be any different?

We need to get Jim Ablett a Mac---or find a Mac user whom developers trust.

The Komodo dragon may be one stupid animal, but would anyone really want to be bitten by it? And maybe the same for the program...it may behoove anyone playing against it to be respectful, if not a bit careful. :)
