Houdini 1.5a bug ...

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hello,

I have some problems to use Houdini 1.5(a) for SWCR Champions-League 2011. I made a configuration without GaviotaBases. On two of my Q9550 systems all works fine (v. 1.5a need only a longer time for loading) on two others comes the message:

This engine ins't an UCI engine!
Engine can't load.

Very crazy!

This error I have on two different Q9550 systems under Windows Professional x64 Edition with the x64 version and the w32 of Houdini 1.5a.

I try the following:

Under Shredder Classic 4 GUI I can give an special UCI command parameter:

UCITimeout=45

With this parameter Houdini 1.5a x64 / w32 started each 1-2 times.
Same with UCITimeout=60 or UCITimeout=30.

Means:
First try with this parameter: Works fine
Second try: Not working
Third try: Works fine and so on

This special command isn't possible under ChessBase Fritz GUIs.

Now Houdini have to play in SWCR Champions-League 2011 in the same group DeepFritz 12 is playing. It need to many time to use with the time control 40 moves in 150 minutes only 2 of my 4 Quad Core Systems.

Final:
Houdini 1.5 x64 works fine here and will play round 2 in SWCR Champions-League 2011.
Version 1.5a have on my systems a problem and I think it have to do with GaviotaBases.

Best
Frank

I have had this happen before in the Fritz GUI. Try removing the spaces in the file name.

Hi Ted,

i renames all engines I am using!

Example:
Houdini_15a_x64.exe in Houdini_15-x64.exe

or ...

Spark_10-x64.exe
Hannibal_10a-x64.exe

For all engines the same on all systems I am using for SWCR. It's more easy for me to managed all the engines on different systems via network. Because all have the same name and I haven't to think about if I add a new one via network on all the other PCs.

Do you mean I have to give the engine an other file name, like
Houdini.exe ?

No, you named them like I would have.

I had a case where I had "Zappa Mexico II" gave your error, but after changing to "Zappa_Mexico_II" everything worked.

Hi Ted,

OK, I understand now.
But I try it with the original name and with the h.exe, or Houdini.exe. The problem is the same. No "empty line" in the name of the engine file.

Crazy, seems I am the first one which have such a problem. But not very important, Houdini 1.5 x64 works fine in the still running games vs. Deep Fritz 12. No problem here with version 1.5!

Your Header is missleading. This is not a Houdini Bug!

I have virtually the same setup and no problems at all with Houdini 1.5 and even without UCITimeout!. Just remember that in the past you had much more problems with Houdini 1.03 than I and others ...
As in the past I suspect a problem with your overall setup as I know that you are doing some "unusual" things. I doubt that anyone here can help you with this.

Frank, it is not my fault that you have problems. You ARE doing unusall things and no one will be able to help you! This is not a Houdini bug but a well known thing that happens from time to time. It is just you who make a bug 'claim' where there is none (Even you are saing that it is working on two computers, the assumption that the computer has a problem is much closer than an engine problem witch is running even on your comps 2 times!). I cant see anythign wrong with my posting and sorry, but I will not sparing you something if it is the truth.
