Hi Bob,

I don't know ... you are the expert for such "and other" things. I have no knowlege about it. I never activated "LargePages" before I had the problem. I had the nonsens in my brain that "Large Pages" is for Intel i3-i7 processors. Never I read more about it. I don't know why I had this bad information in my brain.

Frank,

OK, it really seems to be related to the Large Page support in your Windows installation. I have no idea why Windows needs 40 seconds without any CPU nor disk activity, may best guess is that Windows is scanning the network looking for something that isn't there :(.

Anyway, you currently have activated Large Pages which is probably not recommended for engine tournaments. You should now try to disable the Large Pages (again via the Local Policies security settings), it's quite possible that everything will be working fine afterwards.

Hi Robert,

no idea here too.
My network checked for minutes, all is right. Never changed it since I started the SWCR and config the new OS. At the first time I hat only SWCR-32 and used Windows XP Professional. Sommer last year I started SWCR-64 and installed Windows XP Professional x64 edition.

Yes, I do today in the early morning the following:

1. Activate "Large Pages".
2. I started my systems again (new OS start).
3. Started Houdini 1.5a in textmode (works fine)
4. Started Houdini 1.5a under Shredder Classic 4 and Fritz 11 GUI, works fine.
5. Deactivate "Large Pages".
6. I started my systems again (new OS start).
7. Started Houdini 1.5a in textmode (works fine)
8. Started Houdini 1.5a unter Shredder Classic 4 and Fritz 11 GUI, works fine.

Started SWCR Champions-League 2011 round 2 group 9 again. Large Pages isn't activate so far on my four SWCR systems.

It also crashes very often when I analyse a position using it in Chessbase 9.

It doesn`t happen using Stockfish analysing the same position.

I also discovered that Houdini`s moves are sometimes weird, particularly in balanced, closed positions ( English opening ). Stockfish`s moves are much more solid in these kind of positions.

That's very good news, and confirms that this was indeed a Windows glitch.

Hi Robert,

but you should changed a little bit.

I had on two systems today again the problem that Houdini 1.5a x64 cann't load. Interesting not the same two PCs I had for two days the configuration problems.

I have 4 Quad Cores = 16 Cores.
8 matches are running to the same time with ponder = on
= 2 matches runs on each of the Quad Core systems.

Perhaps here could be a problem!

Example:
1 match runs under Fritz 11 GUI
1 match runs under Shredder Classic 2 GUI
on each of the four PCs

The situation I have at the moment in SWCR Champions-League 2011.

And two same situations:
Fritz 11 GUI: Match is running
Shredder Classic 4 GUI: Match ended and Shredder try to load the next game with Houdini 1.5 x64. And here comes the message "Engine can't load".

With the first Houdini 1.5 x64 version I am more happy as with the second and the version 1.5a. With the first version 1.5 I had in 1.000 games not one problem!
