I want to try writing my own engine, however I need to think about being able to test it. Whether playing against it myself, or throwing known set of test cases, perhaps engaging it with other engines.
I use mac as my development platform of choice, and I was wondering if there's an equivalent of winboard for that platform.
How do you guys approach the problem of testing and user interface in general.

The Winboard Forum is well worth joining and visiting - often.

Xboard runs fine on a Mac, but it runs as an X11 application. If you know how to use it under Linux, it's exactly the same.

What about second part of my question ?
Hello Greg,
Perhaps the Technical sub-forum might be a better place to explore testing matters and issues.
There are no set answers to your question.
Xboard has its own built in tournament mode so you can organise gauntlets, round robins and Swiss tournaments with your installed engines.
I hope this helps.
