Not true. In every democracy at least, you are free to discuss everything including regular court decisions. - I'd even say controversial decisions must be discussed (at least!).

ICGA is probably just a private club (and I don't know what it's legal status is, if any at all). But that probably makes the anti Rybka verdict even worse: Because if a regular court gives a judgement, there are legal means (remedy) available, there is a sequence of courts to appeal and so on, in democratic systems.

Anyway, looking at the absurd size of the related discussions, and the absence of any constructive results from it, I have the impression that this matter is totally overvalued in the scene, at least as it appears to be on the message boards.

You're right, this is not stricto sensu forbidden, but a custom.

Regarding the ICGA, they are the referee of the events they organize, so they can come with any decision they want. Again, Vas can go to a civil court and get damages against the ICGA if (IF!) he has a case.

And yes, all this fuss has blown way out of proportion. This is suffocating the whole community. If there was any progress, that wouldn't be so annoying, but there is just no progress: each side is acting like a religion, and they're completely deaf to each others.

So, I'm asking: what can be done to restore normal relations in our community? This is an open question.

My Suggestion
it is almost impossible for everyone to agree to disagree while their are other forums now in existence which only breed disagreement and discontent
contentious threads are dragged from forum to forum ..from pillar to post ..like a rag doll
folks answer here to a thread created somewhere else ..with the reply answered somewhere else yet again..and so on ..Ad Nausea
i suggest a return to the golden olden days where there was only one forum to discuss these matters..here on the CCC

the best way to achieve this harmony is a US Military Drone strike deep into the heart of the Rybka and Open Chess Forums
then we will welcome all of the refugees here with open arms and soon thereafter all of these matters would be settled and peace returned to the hobby

Peace Brother Regards
Steve

I read you, Steve: I'm a fool, believing that people can settle their problems by forgetting themselves and making good moves. Yet there are counter examples in History proving that people can get back to their senses.

Thanks Steve, that makes my day :) ... somehow... because after four pages of this thread I was under the impression of a null result... and considering the option of seeking asylum at Winboard forum, a much (much!) quieter place (Olivier, Andres, if you read me... )
