Stockfish has been moved to github and the authors are opening up the development to others, although still maintaining control. There is a thread about this is the programmers technical forum.

My Spanish is a bit rusty, but I can use Google translate.

From the Readme:

Stockfish VE_01
Basados en Codigos de Stockfish 2.1.1:
http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=40610
https://github.com/mcostalba/Stockfish

Ninguna modificación.

En Carpeta, \IntelC++Optimizados\
Ejecutables de 32 y 64 bits, con PGP minimo.

En Carpeta, \MicrosoftVisualC++\
Ejecutable de 32 bits.

Basicaly it says: Based on the code of Stockfish 2.1.1... , Compiles in the folder of ... and then: "Ninguna modificación." which means "No modification".

And regarding your "it seems strong": Yes Stockfish is that strong that us humble humans are not cabable of seeing the differences between 2950 and 3050 ... that is all the same to us ... unfortunately.
The only "one" who can distinguish is mathematic with some statistics :-)

Maybe they squeezed out a few percent with the Intel compile ...

Since the issue is speed, as the source code is the same, I would imagine it is a fairly simple affair to run speed tests and estimate performance differences.
