I have nothing to gain by so doing.
But here is a clue: your choice of wording of
"Who do you think is or are the Decembrists?"
shows you are on the right track.

maybe this is an insider stuff. i have no clue what you are talking about.
i find it completely unimportant WHO these people are . or WHO this guy is.

IMO this is not telling us anything to the question why vas rajlich misused fruit sources.

Here is one, Harv:
"A lot more of Fruit went into Hiarcs than ever went into Rybka."
On the strength of that, I claim a 100% discount.
If one uses fruit and robolito etc. one might as well use it to the fullest.

And if not, then it's best not at all, so we know where we are coming from.

There seems to be 2 chess computer races.

1). If you do use it, then it is a mistake to avoid some of it just so you can claim you don't. Some elo will be missing.
2). And if you don't, you mustn't use ANY, so that what you have will be pure 100%. Then both schools have value.

I asked Moscow; they are not native Russian.

Maybe some computerchess dudes, possibly with some Eastern-European dudes, who learned Russian while being in the army.

Seemed however that their action was approved by an organisation, these guys wouldn't otherwise release a byte to the net.

Note also it's easy to prove it was a well planned action by those 'decembrists'. For example Rybka version at that time won many games based upon some passed pawn logics that wasn't in ippolit.

Ippolit missed some stuff in search as well - some extensions that worked well for Rybka.

So a few things that brought rybka a lot of additional elo weren't released.

In short a very well planned leak, as a few things that brought Rybka elorating were STRIPPED from ippolit. If you want to create a strong clone, you are NOT gonna do it like that, ok? Strip stuff that brings quite some elo is a BAD idea.

For what reason was it released?

We can only speculate... ...maybe because they could do it?

That would make DEEP HIARCS 14 to be about 3190 ELO on a quad core, 17 ELO points above NAUM 4.2 on the same hardware: http://computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/4040.live/ and 16 ELO stronger than NAUM 4.2 on http://www.husvankempen.de/nunn/40_40%2 ... liste.html, and on ssdf rating list: http://ssdf.bosjo.net/list.htm, equal with DEEP RYBKA 3: .
I expect DEEP HIARCS 15 to be on 64 bit with at least 70 ELO points stronger than DEEP HIARCS 14.
Best regards!

Still far behind HOUDINI 2.c, DEEP RYBKA 4.1, CRITTER 1.4, STOCKFISH 2.2.2, KOMODO 4. Maybe DEEP HIARCS 15 will come closer them, but we may expect at least another year..... Unfortunately, it seems that the Chessbase engines (DEEP FRITZ, DEEP SHREDDER, DEEP JUNIOR, DEEP HIARCS) will catch up very hard HOUDINI, RYBKA, CRITTER.....
